Exploring the future of a commuter platform
CT Trains is a widely used commuter platform that helps people navigate Cape Town’s rail network. Coral Tech approached Optimal Grip to explore how the mobile experience could be modernised while preserving the familiarity that existing users relied on. Rather than producing a final redesign, I developed a series of exploratory concepts that helped the founder visualise what a more contemporary version of the platform could become.

CT Trains had become a trusted tool for thousands of commuters, but its interface had remained largely unchanged for years.
The challenge was to explore how the experience could evolve without losing the familiarity that made the platform easy for existing users to recognise and navigate. The founder wanted to understand what a modernised product might look like before committing to a full redesign.
